How many smart devices can connect with the VEIU? Can more than one VEIU work with a given phone?

Up to eight (8) devices can be supported by the VEIU app. Yes, more than one VEIU can work with a given phone.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Will this be able to call both my phone and my wife’s phone? We both want to be able to see who's at the door.

Yes, VEIU supports multiple users if sharing the same login info. If one VEIU device is shared by two (2) phones for example, when someone rings the doorbell, both phones will receive notification and be able to connect to the call at the same time. One thing to note, though, is that audio will only transmit between the VEIU device and the phone, but not between the two (2) phones.

I cannot take my phone with me to work. Do you have an option for web login, so once there is an event on my VEIU, I get notified through the web login instead of my phone? It would be great while at work to be able to access VEIU via the internet.

We currently do not offer a web login option. This is mainly because some of our more important features like motion detect notification and doorbell notification do not work with a web login.

Do I need Wi-Fi connection to set up my VEIU? What happens if my Wi-Fi goes out?

The VEIU doorbell can be used WITH OR WITHOUT Wi-Fi connection. However, to maximize VEIU’s benefits, use a wireless internet connection to enable its smart features, including the ability to send live video and audio straight to your smartphone. VEIU is compatible with wireless routers running on 2.4 GHz.

If you lose wireless internet connection, VEIU will not be able to send audio and video data to your smart devices. However, VEIU will continue to operate and save data in its local storage. The 2GB local storage is included in the product and can save up to 20,000 images!

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

If it is connected to my home Wi-FI network, will it be able to send notifications and video streams to my phone even when I am traveling and not at my home?

VEIU needs wireless internet connection to enable its smart features like sending live video and audio to your smartphone. On the other hand, from your end, you do not need to be connected to your home Wi-Fi network in order to receive these notifications and video streams from your VEIU device. You just need to be connected to the internet and it can be any network.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Will VEIU tie into an existing doorbell?

No. VEIU does not have to tie into an existing doorbell, it works independently.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Do I have to replace my existing doorbell?

Replacing your old doorbell is not required. VEIU PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor operates without the need to press your traditional doorbell button. You can still check the live video and chat with your visitors through the VEIU app on your smart devices.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Can I get an additional chime to place in a remote part of my house?

Additional chimes are not necessary since VEIU’s doorbell alert is loud enough to be heard in different portions of the house.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Is it possible to just hardwire VEIU through the existing doorbell wires and then not connect the monitor directly and instead put it in a distant location like home office or kitchen?

VEIU has to be installed separately on the door, independent of the existing doorbell, and the installation process is very straightforward and will take only a few minutes. The monitor has to be connected behind the doorbell/camera. If you would like to have access in other parts of the house, that’s when the EQUES app comes into play and you will be able to control everything from your smartphone. But, good suggestions! We’ve seen your point! We will do product planning based on your suggestions!

Do I need to remove the indoor panel to charge it?

The indoor panel can be easily removed from the door mount for charging. In addition, we also provide a 10-foot (3-meter) charging cable for those who may find it more convenient to plug the indoor panel into a nearby outlet. Alternatively, you may use a power bank to charge.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Will VEIU notify me when it is time to charge the system?

Yes. The VEIU app features a low-battery warning and a battery level indicator on the indoor touch screen that you can check anytime.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

How often does the battery need to be charged for the doorbell and monitor?

A fully-charged battery can last up to two (2) months in standby mode giving you peace of mind that your VEIU will be ready when someone pays you an expected or unexpected visit.

It takes about four (4) to five (5) hours for VEIU to fully charge. To preserve the life of the battery, we recommend recharging the device when the battery drops down to 25%.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Is the battery in the unit replaceable when at some point it no longer holds a charge?

The battery unit won’t be replaceable but it will take a long time before it gets to the point that it no longer holds a charge.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

How long does it take until the battery reaches the point that it no longer holds a charge?

VEIU’s battery can retain over 80% of its capacity over 300 charge-discharge cycles. Since VEIU has a low standby power consumption, there is no need to charge the battery very frequently. A fully-charged battery can last up to two months in standby mode. Therefore, the mentioned number of charge-discharge cycles is basically stretched over a long period of time.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Does VEIU have to run on battery power or can it be hardwired to replace the current doorbell and run off that?

For ease in installation, we made VEIU rechargeable, so there’s no need to work through hardwires. The battery runs for a good amount of time and it also only takes a few hours to recharge.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Will there be other color options?

We currently offer two (2) color options for the exterior doorbell, brass- or champagne- colored. The indoor panel comes in the champagne color only. We might set up a stretch goal for more color options.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Can you add a new color? "Satin Nickel" is always an option for door locks and handles and it will be really nice if VEIU could match this style as well.

Good suggestion! We’ll keep your suggestion in mind and communicate it accordingly with our design team.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

How wide of a space is needed for the back plate?

The back plate has dimensions of 5.75 X 5.75 inches.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

What is the peephole diameter required for mounting (is this a standard size)?

The peephole diameter range is 0.55 - 1.97 inches. It fits the standard peephole.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Will VEIU work if there is a security door or storm door or will this work only with a single door?

The camera and the monitor have to be at opposite sides of a surface since they will be connected by a ribbon cable. If there is a security door or storm door, we can look at other workarounds like let’s say installing both the camera and the monitor on the adjacent wall. However, currently, it can only work on thin walls as the ribbon cable connecting the camera and the monitor can only support a door thickness range of 1.38 - 4.33 inches.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Any warranty for this product?

There is a standard limited warranty for one year.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

What is the operating temperature of the VEIU? Is VEIU waterproof?

The operating temperature is from -13°F to 122°F. VEIU is currently not waterproof, although its positioning on the door (upper part) will more likely prevent it from getting wet. We will try to improve the waterproofing or weatherproofing once we hit the tretch goal!

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Do you plan to have IFTTT integration for this device?

Yes, we do have a plan for IFTTT.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Any plans for integrations with Google Home, Alexa, Apple HomeKit and the like?

Our developers are working on integration with other smart home solutions, so please stay tuned!

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

Can a simple stretch target be a 1080P camera upgrade?

Good suggestion! We will keep this in mind when developing VEIU. We might make it as a stretch goal.

Last updated: April 25, 2017 11:14

What is the operating temperature of the VEIU? Is VEIU waterproof?

The operating temperature is from -13°F to 122°F.

We’ve made VEIU better by improving its waterproofing and weatherproofing:

  1. MORE WATERPROOFING: We will apply a thin layer of Conformal Coating on the PCB board of the outdoor camera part to device more waterproofing. This should allow you to use VEIU doorbell under rainy weather.

  2. MORE WEATHERPROOFING: We’ve improved the design and did an internal TEST. Our VEIU still works perfectly even below the temperature range of -30°C - 50°C (- 22°F - 122°F). Compared to Ring’s operating temperature range of -20°C – 50°C (-5°F - 120°F), our device should be able to endure colder weather!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
